„ORLEN S.A. („Spółka”) announces that the Supervisory Board of the Company, after reviewing the letter from the President of the Management Board of ORLEN S.A., Mr. Daniel Obajtek, in which he stated that he „places himself at the disposal of the Supervisory Board, in terms of the function held”, has decided to dismiss Mr. Daniel Obajtek from the Management Board of ORLEN S.A. with effect from February 5, 2024″ – reads the statement.
Obajtek became the President of Orlen in 2018. From 2006 to 2015, he was the mayor of the municipality of Pcim, from 2016 to 2017, he was the President of the Agency for Restructuring and Modernization of Agriculture, from 2016 to 2018, he was a member of the Supervisory Board of Lotos Biopaliwa, and from 2017 to 2018, he was the President of the Energa Group.
After Orlen’s decision was announced, comments from politicians began to appear on social media. „Daniel Obajtek has been dismissed from the position of President of the Orlen Group. Good morning on Thursday!” – wrote Robert Biedroń (Left).
Agnieszka Pomaska pointed out how the Orlen stock price changed in the last few minutes. „The stock market’s reaction to Obajtek’s dismissal from the position of President of Orlen says a lot” – she commented.
MP Krzysztof Truskolaski called the dismissal „the end of PiS’s Byzantium”. Senator Krzysztof Kwiatkowski stated that Obajtek will have plenty to do. „He will have to explain himself to parliamentary investigative committees and prosecutors about the sale of state assets at a reduced value – as claimed by the Supreme Audit Office and experts” – he wrote. Former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State Assets Jacek Sasin thanked Obajtek „for the hard work he has done for Poland”. „Building an impressive brand known all over the world, joining Orlen to the group of the largest companies in the world, ensuring energy and raw material security for Poland and the countries of the region” – he wrote. According to Sasin, the former President of Orlen is being attacked on political orders.
Daniel Obajtek gave an interview on Radio Zet on Thursday. Host Bogdan Rymanowski asked why he did not step down as CEO of the company, since the government has changed and he previously declared that he would resign if there was a different government. SEE: Daniel Obajtek leaving Orlen? „I have placed myself at the disposal” – Orlen is not a small backyard where you can just brush off your jacket and leave at any moment. It is a company with a revenue of 350 billion, numerous contacts and investments. The transfer of power took place at the turn of the year. I am responsible for closing the year, budgets, investment matters – he listed.
The journalist then asked Obajtek if he „can imagine being the President of Orlen after February 6, when the general meeting will take place.” – I cannot imagine it – he admitted, clarifying that he will either be dismissed or resign from the position himself.
